Though this is listed
as the first books of the Dominions of Irth, it is a totally stand
alone novel. Charm, a magical force, protects the inhabitants of Irth.
No one can survive without its protection. But Charm cannot protect against
a horde of cacodemons which invades Irth and destroys everything in its
path. The cacodemons are led by a powerful Dark Lord who was once the mortal
Wrat. Now he's returned seeking vengeance after being defeated in battle
and cast into the Abyss by Lord Drev, leader of the Seven Dominions. In
a futile attempt to prevent the Dark Lord from ravaging his land, Drev
renounced his realm and engages in a commando-like war with the cacodemons
while trying to find a way to defeat the Dark Lord. Refugees, both human
and partially human, flee the destruction only to fall into Wrat's control.
One of these is Tywi, Drev's destined soul-mate. This story of vengeance,
treachery, heroism, and determination is fast-paced and enthralling. I
look forward to the next. Reviewed by Dave Willoughby |
